therapy for adULTS and Adolescents
Welcome. My name is Jaynee.
I am a Licensed Psychotherapist and Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor based out of California.
The truth is that life can be difficult. So many of us experience ups and downs, unpredictability, anxiety, and feelings of dis-ease. We usually don’t ‘change’, unless there’s a need to do so. When the current way in which we are operating just no longer works, seeking professional support can help. We also don’t need to be in a crisis in order to benefit from therapy - looking inward and taking care of our mental health is always a good idea.
Whatever your reason, know that change is possible and you don't have to figure it all out on your own.
In psychotherapy, also known as ‘therapy’, we will initially look at your past in an effort to understand what’s happening in the present. We will help you to develop awareness and insight into your behaviors, assess what is working and what isn’t, and identify treatment goals that will guide our work together. Ultimately, psychotherapy is aimed at improving your overall quality of life and mental health. I utilize a variety of clinical approaches in sessions, including CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy).
In parent coaching sessions, I work with parents to help them to address their specific and unique family challenges – these sessions are short-term, structured, and focus-driven with concrete steps and strategies to achieving goals. In coaching sessions, you will learn skills to more effectively navigate your relationship with your loved one (teen or adult) who is struggling, while also tending to your needs and wants in the process. My parent coaching clients are generally looking for support around holding boundaries, improving communication, and fostering an emotionally and physically safe home- environment for all family members. Most parents who have a child with a mental health or substance-use challenge can benefit from additional professional support – this is especially true if your loved one is currently in treatment or has recently left a structured treatment environment.
I believe the therapeutic relationship is paramount; therapy requires courage, strength, and trust in yourself and in your therapist. As such, regardless of where you (or your child) are in your process, I will meet you there. I would describe my therapy-style as warm and collaborative. My approach is flexible and tailored to fit your unique needs. Clients appreciate my ability to be direct and authentic.
My areas of specialization include treating the following:
Anxiety
Navigating challenging family-dynamics
School or work-related issues
Life transitions for youth, including pre & post-college
Drug and Alcohol abuse and addiction
I am also passionate about helping individuals and families who are impacted by the consequences of a loved one's addiction and/or mental health challenges. I recognize that people involved in such dynamics, need and deserve an opportunity to heal too.
